Notes of Disquiet considers what happens when the inner world becomes too loud to ignore. Moving through restlessness, intimacy, deep rage, and moments of unexpected joy, the work explores the invisible burdens we carry—the quiet accumulation of everyday harms, the things swallowed, endured, and left unsaid.

As these private burdens become collective, Notes of Disquiet looks toward connection as a source of possibility. Through tenderness, pleasure, and the act of moving together, the work searches for collective remedies: ways of releasing what has been held, tending to what has been wounded, and imagining healing not as an individual act, but as something we practice together.

This work originally premiered on July 30, 2026, at ODC Theater in ODC’s Summer Sampler.

Season 3 Reflections

From San Francisco Chronicle: “Even more heartening was seeing Chong stretch. In Notes of Disquiet, she pushes beyond her established fluency in the ODC house style of jazzy athleticism and gestural quirkiness, expanding her range in both intimate partnering and sweeping ensemble passages, culminating in a gorgeous whorl of group motion.

…Here, tenor saxophonist and composer Raffi Garabedian stands atop a rug next to a lamp, playing a refrain as compelling for its melodic intricacy as for his dynamic control.

…Ja’Moon Jones is such a gifted mover that any passage he dances will be the one you remember.”
